Primetime TV’s Most Glamorous (Part 2)

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

Goodbye Claudine and hello Greta!  For fashion lovers like yours truly, I could not help but be mesmerized with the glitz and glamor that this new soap opera brings.  Again, I am happy to have something to look forward to each night- that of watching ‘Magkaribal’ in ABS-CBN.

Truly, who would not be enchanted with Gretchen Barretto and Angel Aquino as they ramp in designer dresses?  I am also left amazed as the stars parade themselves in Hermes, Chanel, and Louis Vuittons.  Their actings are also not bad.  The stars do really shine in their roles!

Gretchen Barretto of course, effortlessly portrays the role of the super sassy and ultra fashionable Victoria.  Though her acting has fallen prey to many critics, she is, in my opinion, still the perfect actress for the part.  She is  naturally sophisticated and stunning.  She can make any clothing appear to be worth several thousands of pesos.  Thanks to her role as a rich and famous fashion designer, she can make use of her own personal collection of designer items… My most favorite scene of her involved her sashaying her Hermes and spritzing perfume around Vera.  She is so believable that you want to hate her and love her at the same time.

Angel Aquino convincingly portrays the kontrabida- Vera.  No matter how much Victoria criticizes her fashion choices, she still exudes poise and elegance.  Her style, coupled with her shining acting prowess, make her one of the stars to watch for every night.

Bea Alonzo brings to the screen a refreshing look.  Her outrageous combination of clothing seems reasonable enough as she represents a budding designer who is carefree, risky, and brimming with potential.  Her style, though not actually favoring my taste, is catchy enough for the younger market.  Indeed, I could see my tween daughter emulating her appearance- mixing and matching spaghetti straps and blouses and adorning her body with colorful accessories.

I am proud to advertise this teleserye as something worth watching and waiting for each night…. enjoy seeing the stars battle each other in words and of course, in fashion.

The Other Side of Angel Locsin

Friday, March 26th, 2010

From the day that Angel Locsin set foot in ABS CBN’s territories, I fell in love with her. I admire her guts and strength. Amidst the various attacks on her supposed disloyalty to the network that brought her to fame, she bravely held her head high and rebuilt her career in her new found home.
No, I am not really a die-hard supporter. I used to watch a lot of telenovelas but unfortunately, it’s been difficult for me to find time for TV nowadays. My addiction for online auctions, however, made me cross paths with Angel’s noble project- Shop and Share. Shop and Share was conceptualized to help the victims of Ondoy and Pepeng. The idea was to pool enough funds to donate to the Red Cross. I never knew that there is so much in Angel than a pretty face and a lot of talent. She selflessly shelled out a lot of her valuable possessions to raise money for the needy. I would want to shop and share myself but unfortunately, a lot of the items are a bit pricey… ;-) However, for those of you who are interested, you can check out the listings here- http://www.shopandshare.ph/index2.html
Hats off to Angel and other Kapamilya Stars!

Boys Over Flowers

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

One of the perks of my current employment is that I get to go home early (Yipee!!).  Because of this, I have had the opportunity of discovering Boys Over Flowers in Channel 2… As I was a certified Meteor Garden fanatic before, it was not difficult to take interest (and eventually, an addiction) to this famed Koreanovela.  In comparison, this series is in many respects, better than the Taiwanese version.   The lead stars are more glamourous looking and the story line is better written.  However, regardless of which version is better or not, I still commend the genius behind Hana Yori Dango for effortlessly catapulting actors and actresses into stardom!

Philippine Primetime TV’s Most Glamorous

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

One of the factors that motivate me to hurry home after work is TV.  Like many individuals, I find comfort in watching my favorite primetime flicks after a laborious day at work.  Lately, I found myself getting hooked with teleseryes… Though an ABS-CBN loyalist, I still preferred watching shows on cableTV.  However, just recently, I realized that my addiction to Fear Factor, Amazing Race, and other AXN, HBO, and JackTV shows has been intermittently replaced by my fanaticism to local teleseryes such as Dyosa, Iisa Pa Lamang, and Betty La Fea.  I love seeing the face of Anne Curtis in Dyosa, I love laughing with Vhong and Bea in Betty La Fea, and of course, I love the exchange of hateful dialogues in Iisa Pa Lamang…

But beyond storylines, I really appreciate the way the production staff really take effort to make their wardrobe fit their specific characters.  Among the ladies in Primetime TV, allow me to share you my pick of Primetime TV’s most glamorous…

Ruffa Gutierrez is a certified glamor girl.  I believe everybody knows that she is a sucker for high-end designer clothings and stuffs.  True enough, her sophistication and style emanate everytime she appears on TV.  Her height coupled with her medium physique complements her fashionable wardrobe.
Angelica Panganiban suits her role as Scarlet, the super rich spoiled brat in Iisa Pa Lamang.  Right about now, she is also a certified trend-setter! Probably you have seen young girls walking around with fancy headbands or hairdresses on their hair… well, thanks to Angelica!

Of course, Claudine Barretto will not let Scarlet dominate the fashion world!  Claudine plays the role of Katherine, the woman driven with vengeance!  Though a bit stocky (due to child birth I guess), she still looks amazingly rich and fashionable…

I Love Daniella of Betty La Fea!

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

After about 2 or 3 weeks on air, me and my sisters are so hooked up with ABS-CBN’s primetime telenovela- I Love Betty La Fea!  My most favorite character of them all- the elegant fashionista and really mean VP, Daniella, played by Ruffa Gutierrez.  I’m not particularly a fan of Ruffa but when I watch her, my God, she is really dang good!  I believe there’s nobody out there who can equal her portrayal here…
