The Trigger: Discrimination in International Schools

April 30th, 2010

After two consecutive years of disappointment as teachers of big schools, we have finally decided to go for our ultimate dream- that of building our very own preschool.

For the longest time, this idea was just like any other favorite topic of conversation. We do not take it seriously. After all, we are very much enjoying our slow and easy life as teachers in a new international school. However, as much as we take pleasure in our stress free work place, mismanagement and disorganization that are like cancer in that organization finally took its toll on us. For some insane reason, the Korean-owners of the school are fearing that Filipino teachers will sue them eventually because of the huge income disparity that exists between the local teachers and the foreign teachers (ala the famous labor case of International School of Manila). And because of the workings of their extra wild imagination, they have decided to ‘demote’ the Filipino Teachers into Assistant Teachers, as will be clearly indicated in their next contract of employment.

Free Printable Preschool Classroom Flashcards

April 24th, 2010

I am aware of how difficult it is to search the internet and local bookstores for instructional materials such as flashcards. Faced with that dilemma, I decided to make my own by sourcing the net for images, doing my own lay-out, printing, and laminating. As I was doing this, I realized that even if there are a thousand images ready to be copied, most are water-marked… I guess not all artists are really willing to share their pictures to us. However, with a few editing, I managed to come up with a decent number of cards for lessons we tackled in class. Flashcards are valuable tools in the classroom, especially when it comes to building vocabulary and comprehension skills. So here below are some flash cards I used in my own class… feel free to print and use them. Read the rest of this entry »

The Other Side of Angel Locsin

March 26th, 2010

From the day that Angel Locsin set foot in ABS CBN’s territories, I fell in love with her. I admire her guts and strength. Amidst the various attacks on her supposed disloyalty to the network that brought her to fame, she bravely held her head high and rebuilt her career in her new found home.
No, I am not really a die-hard supporter. I used to watch a lot of telenovelas but unfortunately, it’s been difficult for me to find time for TV nowadays. My addiction for online auctions, however, made me cross paths with Angel’s noble project- Shop and Share. Shop and Share was conceptualized to help the victims of Ondoy and Pepeng. The idea was to pool enough funds to donate to the Red Cross. I never knew that there is so much in Angel than a pretty face and a lot of talent. She selflessly shelled out a lot of her valuable possessions to raise money for the needy. I would want to shop and share myself but unfortunately, a lot of the items are a bit pricey… ;-) However, for those of you who are interested, you can check out the listings here- http://www.shopandshare.ph/index2.html
Hats off to Angel and other Kapamilya Stars!

Birthday Jitters

January 12th, 2010

A few days from now, I will be saying hello to another year of my existence.  I want to relax and say “What the heck, it’s just another birthday.” But honestly, I am pretty much freaked out.  For one, I will be crossing the “calendar borderline” thingy- or as we Filipinos put it, wala na ako sa kalendaryo… Geeez… I am turning 32 and as far as I’m concerned, I have not attained anything really worth boasting for.  To add to this, I am feeling the lose of youth- – more responsibilities, more health problems, more physical deterioration… Oh, I know I should not worry about this…worrying adds to the gravity of the situation and I do not want to compound it.  My rational brain prompts me to embrace another era of my life… to work my butt off while at the same time, enjoy what life has to offer.  Thankfully, I am slowly but imminently gaining another perspective in life… that of paving a better and brighter future for my kids.  I guess I am steering away from a life of self-centeredness and moving towards a more fulfilling and worthy one… As regards to achieving something to be proud of, well, besides being a good wife and mother, I have yet to figure that one out…. :-)

The Tinokla Effect

December 21st, 2009

I find the name of this new lay-out funny… Well, I would not expect anything less from the man who named and created it- my super uber talented and hilarious husband- Paulo…. Thank you so much!

I guess, the Tinokla Effect was just something that popped out of nowhere…  I told him to modify the information behind this new theme and there it was- the Tinokla Effect… just reading it makes me LMAO… har har har… well just for documentation, this will do..

For the longest time, I have been bugging Pao to design me a new one. Finally, after squeezing this task many times in his loaded work schedule, he finally managed to finish it.   The first lay-out of this page was inspired by my true love- preschool teaching.  As time went by, my write-ups became as crazy as I was- touching topics that range from fashion to spirituality.  That’s why I feel that this current theme is so much more fitting to the kind of person that I am- twisted, eccentric, impulsive, reflective, introvert, girly, etc… etc… Now, I feel that I am liberated from my own invented perception of writing something thoroughly researched and scholarly… I want to be me and that is what this page will be!

Looking Back to the Year that Was

December 20th, 2009

Goodbye 2009. In my reflective mode, I could not help but ask myself this question- Was 2009 my year? I have had a series of heartbreaks and heartaches… sad and scary experiences… But in the midst of my personal tragedies, a new and better me emerges. Overall, I feel blessed in many respects… my kids are healthy, my husband has a nice and stable job, I have good friends to lean on… Work wise, quitting from BWS also did good for me… I was able to experience developing our own curriculum, designing an assessment tool, and best of all, I was able to do all these while spending more time with my family… So, overall, I thank God for 2009…

God has and always been good to me…
God has a way of teaching us to be better people. He taught me how to be strong amidst overwhelming attacks. He taught me how to be a better mother by giving me a less stressful job… And when my husband almost died in a car accident… he taught me how to be a better wife. God spared his life so he can live long with me and our children. So what if I lost my green Aveo… I feel that something better is in store for me…
I am openly embracing 2010. My heart is fluttering with the excitement and challenges that it will bring. It is a fresh start and I plan to start a new… build my career over again… Plan for the distant future ahead. Pray fervently and quit smoking… Live a healthier and a more fulfilling life…
So, to all my readers… Thank you for stopping by…
A Merry Christmas and a Happy and Bountiful New Year to all of you!!! God Bless!
